PREVIOUSLY DONE
GIS PROJECTS
Day in and day out, I’m constantly taking on new and interesting projects that help me build my GIS experience. From industry-related tasks to unusual and sporadic opportunities at school, each experience I’ve had has turned me into who I am today. Have a look at everything I’ve done, and send any questions my way.

GIS IN DAILY LIFE
This video is meant for the public audience who don't know what GIS is, on a general scale.
The purpose of creating this video was to help my family members to understand the field of my interest better, using their daily life as an example.

GIS INTERN
Summer Internship 2019 with the City of Carbondale, IL
I've had the opportunity to get exposure to various kinds of GIS projects with the city planning department. Ranging from reviewing construction documents to creating maps for zoning reports using ArcGIS Desktop, all projects shared below are done by myself.
Note: Due to government confidentiality, final map results are not included here.
Project 1
MAKING MAPS FOR SECTION X HOUSING LOCATION
As I worked on this project, I learned that the Project Tool is very helpful for fixing the correct coordinate system. This project helped me understood how to read the documentation on the ESRI Website because they are very helpful when I need clarification on the function of any tools available. The explanation given on the documentation helped me solved most of the technical difficulties in this first project.
Project 2
FIXING THE DISPLAY OF ADDRESS LABEL ON ARCMAP
In this project, I worked on creating a new layer for the correct Address Annotation. My supervisor mentioned he was having trouble displaying the result with correct alignment after saving it in ArcMap. Here, I duplicated the original layer into a geodatabase created under my name to make sure no changes will be done on the original layer. In conclusion, I learned the proper way of creating address annotation labels, creating a new address or deleting an old address using the Editor Tool in ArcGIS ArcMap.
Project 3
MAKING MAPS FOR NEW PROPOSED TIF DISTRICT X
For this project, I worked on creating a polygon for the selected area that was proposed as the new TIF District X. As mentioned by my supervisor, there were problems with the polygon layer not showing on the map when he reopens the same layer file using another computer. Here, I learned the proper way of using the Editor Tool to create a new polygon layer under the correct file geodatabase in ArcCatalog to prevent the error of the polygon layer not showing on the saved file.
Project 4
DISPLAY PARCELS
My given task for this project was to check which given address location on an excel file would also belong to the shaded area in a given map result from the previous project, then list out the addresses that are not included. I was provided with an excel file consists of 232 address locations. First, I converted the excel file into CSV format to import it as a layer into ArcMap, similar to what I did in Project 1. Then, I double-checked the correct coordinate system followed by displaying the given address location as shaded areas on the map. Lastly, by using “select features” available on the ArcMap toolbar, I was able to select all polygons that existed inside the shaded area only. The selected result was exported into another excel file. Lastly, a comparison was made between the new and old excel file, and the final result on the included and non-included addresses list was made.
Project 5
ASSISTING PLANNER ON MAPS MAKING FOR PLANNING COMMISSION CASES
I learned that the planners were taught many different ways to do the same task – creating a new polygon layer and include new information on the attribute table. The most challenging part is creating a new field name and editing the table content. First, when we draw the polygon, it is very similar to what we did back in project 3. Then, I create a new field under the attribute table in ArcMap using Editor Tool. At the end of the project, I handwrote all the steps I did to create a map for the planning commission case and gave it to the planners for future references. In short, we worked on a total of three different maps.
Project 6
EDIT EXISTING MAP
(COMBINING SKILLS FROM PROJECT 3 & 5)
On the final week of my internship, I was given a new task on creating two maps with polygon drawn for Food Truck Area and Historic Town Square. Drawing a new polygon is similar to what I did back in Project 3 and 5. Other steps would include editing a new field, manually display all road names, editing attribute table content and drawing a railroad sign.
